“All sales final” makes people nervous, and it should. Plenty of stores use it to dodge responsibility for what they sell. So here is our actual reasoning, and what we do about it.
Why we cannot take returns on bin items
A bin store runs on a very thin structure. We buy pallets of mixed, unsorted, partly-returned merchandise sight unseen. Nobody inspects each item. Nobody tests each item. Nobody prices each item. That is the entire reason a fifty-dollar product can sit in a ten-dollar bin — we took out the labor that would otherwise be baked into the price.
Add a returns desk and you add back the staff, the restocking, the disputes, the write-offs. The ten-dollar bin becomes a fifteen-dollar bin. The price you are getting is a direct result of the process staying simple.
There is also the blunt version: some of what is in those bins came back from a customer once already. We do not know its history. We are not going to pretend we do.
So we moved the inspection to the front
Every one of our four stores has testing stations on the floor — one for bin items and one for Prime deals. They are there for you, not just for staff.
If something is open, plugs in, takes batteries, or you just are not sure — take it over and try it before you get in line. Ask anyone on the floor and they will point you at it. Nobody will rush you.
That is the trade. We do not take it back afterwards, but we will help you find out exactly what you are buying beforehand.
What to expect in the bins, plainly
Liquidation stock means opened boxes, missing accessories and cosmetic damage are normal, not exceptional. Most of it is fine. Some of it is not. That is the nature of buying a truckload sight unseen and passing the savings on rather than paying people to sort it.
Customers who know this call it a treasure hunt. Customers who do not call it junk. Same store, same bins — the only difference is what they were told to expect. So we would rather tell you.
